In an age of performance tables and Ofsted inspections, teachers and leaders at all levels need to demonstrate excellent student progress, particularly in exam classes. If you are responsible for a class, a department or a faculty, career advancement will be determined to a large degree on your ability demonstrate strong student progress in your area of responsibility.
As well as demonstrating that you can achieve excellent student progress, you also need to be able to convince a Headteacher that you are ready to take on any new role that you are applying for. Many teachers and middle leaders only start to think about this when they want to apply for jobs. They then find that they are not able to demonstrate that they have the skills, qualities and experience needed to convince a Headteacher to appoint them.
